when holly told me it was time to start planning our second annual event benefitting pancreatic cancer (this year, we added cholangiocarcinoma as well) i was very excited and wanted to get started right away. our first fundraiser went so well, we raised a great amount of money for the hirshberg foundation, it really made us feel like we were making a difference. i instantly started thinking of ideas for decorations and different ways in which we could raise money to beat our goal of last years total. we had a few meetings with our salon and spa staff members beforehand to brainstorm and to discuss what we all wanted to get out of the event. after about six months of planning, the event day finally came and it was a success. we had almost a full book of appointments and many people stopped in just to enter our raffle. the prizes of the raffle were donated from businesses such as harry’s savoy grill, two stones pub, rocco’s italian sports bar & grill, kerastase, and shu uemura. and of course, a spa day from salon 828!
planning and hosting this event was very important to me because it was a positive way to remember my aunt (holly’s mom) who i lost two years ago to pancreatic cancer. it was very therapeutic to know that we were raising money for cancer research and awareness. i found it very comforting to know that we were potentially saving someone else from losing a loved one to cancer. my goals are to continue with the annual event and for the word to spread so the turnout and proceeds become a greater success year after year.
